The Queensland Orchestra presents Saint Saëns’ Organ Symphony

The Queensland Orchestra presents Saint Saëns’ Organ Symphony

Ravel was always entranced by the exotic East and Shéhérazade is one of the most exquisite song cycles for female voice in the repertory. From the magical opening call to the Orient to the Enchanted Flute the exquisite voice of Elena Belfiore will seduce the senses like a garden of perfumed delights. Scriabin saw his languid, voluptuous melodies as the musical equivalent of slowly moving colour patterns creating an almost psychedelic effect. Saint-Saëns Organ Symphony is the grandest of his compositions and is justly famous for its earth-trembling finale with solo concert organ, two pianists and full orchestra. Like all of Camille Saint-Saëns’ works, it is suave and full of elegant Gallic melodies – making a perfect ending for Maestro Plasson’s return to Brisbane.

The St Lucia Orchestra is performing at St Lucia

The St Lucia Orchestra is performing at St Lucia on the 30th of August at the Schonell Theatre, UQ. The orchestra is performing with the Giuseppe Verdi Choral Society, which is an all-male choir who sing famous Italian songs and opera choruses. The choir was formed in the 1950s by Italian migrants who wanted to maintain and express their wonderful cultural tradition in Australia. The choir still features some original members today!

The Giuseppe Verdi Choral Society has been gladdening the hearts of Brisbane’s music-loving community for over fifty years. It was formed in the 1950s by young Italian-born men newly arrived in Australia who were keen to maintain and extend their musical traditions on these shores. Several of those men are still singing in the choir today.

Over the decades the choir has performed countless times for the Brisbane Italian community, as well as at festivals and events throughout Queensland and beyond.

Current Maestro, Mark Dunbar has directed the choir for the past eight years and now has the distinction of being their longest serving musical director.

The Three Tenors - Pavarotti Viva

Inspired by Pavarotti, our three tenors provide a show that is full of joy and light-heartedness which will touch you with its emotion and generosity. Pavarotti Viva! Takes you on a journey starting with his early operatic beginnings, including his tours in Australia with Joan Sutherland, to his worldwide fame through the Three Tenors' concerts and ending with 'Pavarotti and Friends' raising funds for children's charities with the assistance of stars from the world of rock and pop music.

Pavarotti had one glorious voice! But Pavarotti Viva! Gives you not 1 but 3 wonderful tenor voices PLUS a soprano! Accompanied by piano and rhythm section this is definitely a 'more than memorable' performance.

Pavarotti Viva Show
Show includes well loved arias from:
Rigoletto (Verdi)
La Boheme (Puccini)
L'Elisir d'Amore (Donizetti)
favourite Italian songs like O sole mio, Mamma and Funiculi, Funicula
songs from West Side Story (Bernstein)
popular songs sung by Andrea Bocelli, Celine Dion and Joe Cocker

In the world of opera, our hearts and souls are lifted above the ordinary and into the divine. But in nearly every opera, there is a tragedy. Recently, we have seen the tragic passing of one of opera's greatest heroes, Luciano Pavarotti. He touched our hearts and moved us all with one of the most magnificent voices the world has ever known.
