Indigenous Kuranda's students and the Italian language

Kuranda District State College students, some as young as 7, have illustrated a Dreamtime story - written in English, Italian and Djabugay - that has been published in Florence as part of a school project.
"This is absolute gold to us", school principal Gary Toshach said. Lycia Erwin, 10, a Djabugay girl, is amazed at how easily the stories of her people translate. "It is bellissimo", she laughed.

Italian Week: let's celebrate!

La dolce vita is just around the corner as all things Italian come under the spotlight.

Festival producer Alessandro Sorbello says Italian Week 2009 will provide a unique insight into Italian culture through a range of events and activities for all ages and nationalities.
"We' re bringing the " la vita e' bella" or " life is beautiful" essence of Italy to Brisbane and this year's celebration will capture the flair and excitement of one of the world's oldest countries," says Alessandro, who was born in Milan but raised in Brisbane.

The talented young designers will have their creations paraded alongside collections from fashion success stories such as Elio Moda and Subfusco.
"The students are thrilled to be working with designers like Elio Moda", the TAFE's fashion education manager Liz Reynolds said.
It helps them gain exposure to the public as they build their fashion careers.
