The Synopsis of Romeo and Juliet

Select your language: Italiano 中文 Espanol Francais Deutsch Portugues

Romeo and Juliet, the famous story of the "star-crossed" young lovers Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet.
The original story is set in medieval Verona where two houses dominate in the power struggle for this town; the Montagues and the Capulets.
They are sworn enemies. Both families have but a single offspring; Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet.
Romeo and Juliet meet and instantly fall in love behind their parents' backs. They are married in secret by a priest who hopes their union will resolve the rift between their families, but things do not go well for the two lovers.
Juliet's cousin Tybalt, offended that Romeo had sneaked into the Capulet ball, challenges him to a duel. Romeo, now considering Tybalt his kinsman, refuses to fight him. Mercutio is incensed by Tybalt's insolence, as well as Romeo's "vile submission", and accepts the duel on Romeo's behalf. Mercutio is fatally wounded.
Romeo, in a fit of rage, in turn kills Tybalt. This results in Romeo being banished from Verona. Meanwhile, Paris is betrothed to the already-married Juliet. In desperation, Juliet seeks the help of the priest to resolve this situation, leading to some desperate measures which go horribly wrong.

The story retains its timeless power to this day.
